Some background
Rivetco Pty. Ltd. publishes the books of the pioneering veterinarian Dr Tom Lonsdale.
Tom graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1972. In 1980 he moved to Australia and in 1981 opened the first of a small cluster of veterinary clinics in outer western Sydney. His entry in Who’s Who is here and a fuller biography here.
In 1991 Tom blew the whistle on the junk pet food/veterinary/animal welfare alliance via a newsletter article: Oral Disease in Cats and Dogs. It also marked the beginning of Tom’s thirty-year campaign for improved pet health, accountability of the global veterinary profession and exposure and possible prosecution of the junk pet food industry.
In 1993 the University of Sydney Post Graduate Committee in Veterinary Science commissioned Tom to write the definitive article on preserving the dental and consequent general good health of pets. The published article contains a lawyer’s opinion on the potential jeopardy of veterinarians and others arising from their promotion and sale of industrial ‘foods’ for pets.
From 1991 Australian veterinarians, animal welfare agencies and junk pet food producers can no longer claim ‘ignorance’ of the junk pet food devastation. And in any case ‘ignorance’ is no excuse at law.
Despite the evidence, despite the warnings veterinarians, animal welfare agencies and junk pet food producers have doubled down on their previous conduct. And nowadays they seek to denigrate the essential requirements for carnivores to rip, tear and chew on whole carcasses covered with fur, fins and feathers or the second-best, pragmatic option raw meaty bones.
Arising from veterinary negligence leading to a vacuum in leadership and regulatory control and scientific integrity, veterinary ‘science’ has been debased. Veterinarians provide a protective cordon around the junk pet food industry and a global army of profiteers have prospered with their loud pronouncements and junk raw products.
Tom Lonsdale’s books and website provide essential dietary advice for all pet owners and their veterinarians. Equipped with vital pet health, consumer protection and scientific information readers are empowered to make a difference for their pets, themselves and the wider community.
